Hunting Island Marsh Walk

Description:

Part 1: Experience a marsh habitat walk with a Hunting Island naturalist. Explore and learn about the salt marsh, vegetation, tidal flats, wildlife, and the importance of all of it to mankind and the environment. The Hunting Island Marsh boardwalk extends across the lush marsh tidal flats to a small hummock and provides a magnificent platform for viewing nature and wildlife. The Vietnam war scenes for the movie Forest Gump were shot near this marsh walk. 

Part 2: The nature center features live reptiles and exhibits highlighting the park’s natural resources. The fishing pier outside the nature center is also a good spot for watching dolphin and bird life. 

Directions: You will turn at the last left on the island before you get to Fripp Island. Meet at the Nature Center which is at the end of Hunting Island State Park.

Bring: insect repellent, shoes that may get wet, and weather appropriate attire. 

Notes: Show up early to park and visit the restrooms. 

Lunch: After the trip you may stay as long as you wish. The lighthouse complex is a great place to have lunch. *Park entry is an additional fee.
