Event description

We have a phenomenal trip scheduled to kickoff Black History Month. We believe this will be very impactful to your students. Please sign up quickly!

We will begin outside Penn Center where the National Park Center will escort us to the Brick Baptist Church, one of the early sites for the Penn School, and to Darrah Hall, a historic structure on Penn Center’s campus. The walk with the Park Service will focus on Reconstruction from 1862 to around 1900.

After the walk, the group will visit the Penn Center museum for a video and viewing of exhibits. This portion of the trip will run the spectrum of African American history in the Lowcountry from slavery through the Civil Rights era – for example in the 1960s, Penn Center served as a retreat for a number of leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, including Martin Luther King, Jr.
